Crews with Benton Fire District No. 4 have begun flow testing approximately 1,000 fire hydrants from Wemple Road into the Town of Benton.
Each hydrant will undergo a five-minute flush to measure water pressure and flow rates, helping ensure optimal performance for firefighting operations and maintain water quality throughout the system.
Residents should be aware that hydrant flushing may cause temporary water discoloration. This is a normal result of sediment being stirred up within the water distribution system, particularly in areas where water has remained settled in the lines. If discoloration occurs, residents are encouraged to run cold water from their faucets until the water becomes clear.
These annual inspections and flow tests are essential for identifying and addressing potential issues within the water system, helping ensure safe, reliable service for all customers.
Testing is expected to continue through early December between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
