Local leaders, officials, and volunteers gathered on Monday morning under the I-220 bridge on West Viking Drive for a press conference launching Operation Clean Sweep, a parish-wide initiative aimed at beautifying the community.
Sheriff Julian Whittington, who spearheads the event, called on residents and businesses to take pride in their surroundings and participate in the cleanup effort ahead of the Defenders of Liberty Air Show. With over 200,000 visitors expected, officials see this as the perfect opportunity to showcase Bossier Parish at its best.
“Operation Clean Sweep is more than just picking up trash—it’s about demonstrating our pride in the community,” said Lisa Johnson, President/CEO of Bossier Chamber of Commerce. “We’re asking everyone, from business owners to families, to roll up their sleeves and join us in making Bossier Parish shine.”
The event was attended by key community figures, including mayors, police jurors, and representatives from the Bossier Chamber of Commerce. They voiced strong support for the initiative, emphasizing the importance of civic responsibility and teamwork.
The annual cleanup will take place on Saturday, March 22, starting at 8:00 AM. Volunteers will work across the parish, collecting litter and enhancing public spaces.
“This is an opportunity to set a positive example for our children and show visitors what makes our community special,” said Bossier City Mayor Tommy Chandler.
The press conference highlighted the importance of collaboration between local government, businesses, and residents in maintaining a clean and welcoming environment. Organizers encouraged everyone to participate, whether by picking up litter in their neighborhoods, assisting with designated cleanup sites, or supporting volunteers.
