Sheriff Julian Whittington and the Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Office are pleased to invite members of the media to attend the official launch of the Emerging Leaders Initiative Leadership Development Program on Saturday, August 22, 2026, beginning at 0800, at the Viking Drive Substation (2510 Viking Drive, Bossier City).

The Emerging Leaders Initiative is a newly established program designed to introduce participants to the many career opportunities available within the field of law enforcement while providing hands-on learning experiences focused on professional development, teamwork, communication, and leadership skills.

The program will expose participants to the diverse roles and responsibilities within a law enforcement organization, highlighting the many career paths available beyond traditional patrol operations. Through education, mentorship, and real-world experiences, participants will gain insight into the skills, dedication, and commitment required for careers in public safety, including opportunities within patrol, investigations, corrections, communications, specialized units, and other areas of law enforcement service.

Dr. Shelly Barrett will serve as the program leader for the Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Office, overseeing the initiative and guiding participants through a curriculum focused on career awareness, leadership development, accountability, teamwork, and service to the community.

Sheriff Julian Whittington believes investing in the next generation of leaders is essential to building stronger communities and creating opportunities for future success. He is excited about the launch of the Emerging Leaders Initiative and the positive impact this program will have on the youth of Bossier Parish by providing mentorship, education, and firsthand exposure to the many rewarding career opportunities available in law enforcement.
