BPCC baseball team qualifies for conference tournament

The Bossier Parish Community College Cavaliers swept Northeast Texas Community College last week and qualified for the Region XIV baseball tournament.

The Cavaliers finished the regular season 25-27 overall and fourth in the Region XIV East Zone at 14-16.

As the East Zone No. 4 seed, BPCC will take on South Zone No. 1 San Jacinto College-North (44-10) at 5 p.m. Friday in the first round of the double-elimination conference tournament in Sugar Land, Texas.

BPCC closed the regular season by defeating Northeast Texas 10-6, 11-7 and 15-5 at home.
Daniel Rushing went 3-for-4 with two doubles and three RBI in the 10-6 victory.

Dakota Wright, Matt Hammock, Joseph Tassin and former Bossier High standout Rodney Bonds had two hits apiece.

Wright and Bonds had two RBI each.

Former Airline standout Landon Lewis pitched the final four innings to get the win. He allowed just two hits and no runs.

Wright had a grand slam home run and five RBI in the 11-7 victory.

Former Benton star Andrew Cole went 2-for-4 with a double and three RBI. Hammock, Tassin and Luis Santiago had two hits apiece.

Doc Wilkerson pitched a complete game. He allowed eight hits, struck out four and walked none in the seven-inning game.

The 15-5 game went only six innings because of the 10-run rule.

Austin Stegall had a home run, double and three RBI. Tassin went 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBI. Wright, Cole, Santiago, Holliday and Rushing all had two hits.

Brent Holcombe went all six innings, allowing six hits.
