The BPCC Debate Team will host the 8th Annual Eddy Shell Invitational Debate Tournament February 19-21 on the College campus, 6220 E. Texas St, Bossier City, LA.
The competition, expected to draw 15 colleges/universities and approximately 200 students, is named in honor of Dr. Edwin T. “Eddy” Shell, who taught speech at BPCC for forty years until his passing in 2008 after a battle with cancer.
In its first 4 years, the tournament has attracted 29 different colleges and universities from seven states to the BPCC campus.
Team captain Jakob Volcheck noted that “It’s nice to be able to showcase our campus to many of the colleges and universities that we see week-in/week out in competitions around the region.”
Debate team coach Bob Alexander added, “This event provides us the chance to both honor the memory of Dr. Shell and provide a unique opportunity for BPCC students, faculty, staff and members of the community to see some of the top intercollegiate debaters who will ultimately be the leaders of their generation.”
Competition runs from 11:45 am-800 pm on Friday, Feb. 19, 8:00 am-10:00 pm on Saturday, Feb. 20 and 8:30 am-500 pm on Sunday, February 21, and will be headquartered in Building F.
