BPCC Natchitoches Launches New Fiber Optics Technology Program

Bossier Parish Community College (BPCC) is expanding its workforce training opportunities with the introduction of a new Fiber Optics Technology program at the BPCC Natchitoches campus, beginning May 13, 2025. This innovative program is designed to equip students with in-demand technical skills needed for careers in the rapidly growing fiber optics industry.

The program will be offered as a Career and Technical Certificate (CTC) and can be completed in just four weeksClasses will be held Mondays and Tuesdays from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Natchitoches campus, located at 6587 Highway 1 Bypass.

Developed to meet the increasing demand for fiber optics technicians, the curriculum emphasizes hands-on training in:

  • Fiber splicing, termination, and connectorization
  • Testing and troubleshooting fiber optic cables
  • Installation and maintenance of fiber optic systems for both outside plant environments and fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) applications

Eligible students may qualify for financial assistance through the MJ Foster Promise Program, as well as additional scholarship opportunities. Participants who successfully complete the program will also receive a $200 completion stipend.

“We are excited to bring our fiber optics training program to the Natchitoches and Sabine Valley region,” said Quentin Calhoun, Dean of Business and Information Technology. “This short-term credential prepares students for high-demand jobs with companies like AT&T and others in the telecommunications field. With financial support options and the opportunity to earn up to six industry-recognized certifications, this program offers a fast and affordable path to employment.”
