BPCC TO DEDICATE THE AEP FOUNDATION CREDITS COUNT™ LEARNING LAB
Bossier Parish Community College, in collaboration with the BPCC Foundation, is set to dedicate the AEP Foundation’s Credits CountSM Learning Lab at 2:00 pm Thursday, June 9 in BPCC’s Learning Commons (Library), Building A on the College’s campus, 6220 E. Texas St., Bossier City, LA.
The AEP Credits CountSM Learning (Orientation) Lab is the students’ on-site “gateway,” or starting point, for college campus resource accessibility. The Learning Lab is where students will learn about research tools, technical and digital resources, and services and support available to help ensure their success as they navigate the college experience.
“The AEP Foundation’s investment in Bossier Parish Community College to bring the Credits CountSM dual enrollment initiative to northwest Louisiana is important because BPCC will pave the way to help young people become the next generation of critical thinkers who will find solutions for complex challenges for businesses and communities,” says Venita McCellon-Allen, SWEPCO president and chief operating officer.
At individual computer stations within the Learning Lab, students are guided by a librarian through a step-by-step, hands-on exploration of how to:
Locate physical materials in the library using the online catalog,
Access journal articles from the online database using Boolean and other search engines,
Distinguish the difference between journals and magazines for research,
Analyze basic principles on fair use of copyright materials in student research
Understand MLA and APA citation style and how to avoid plagiarism, and
Discover how library resources can be remotely accessed online 24/7.
BPCC Chancellor Dr. Rick Bateman, Jr. and BPCC Foundation President Bruce Roberts will unveil a plaque naming the space the AEP Foundation Credits CountSM Learning Lab.
“The services in the AEP Foundation Credits CountSM Learning Lab will help to provide a stronger foundation for students, enhance their knowledge and confidence level about campus resources, and ultimately, enhance outcomes related to exams and study material, therefore, ensuring that each individual will be successful upon graduation,” says BPCC Chancellor Dr. Rick Bateman, Jr.
Join us as we dedicate this learning space and recognize AEP Foundation and SWEPCO for its support of Bossier Parish Community College and its students.
