BPCC women give 3-time defending national champs a scare

The Bossier Parish Community College Lady Cavs threw a scare into three-time defending NJCAA Division I national champion Trinity Valley Community College before falling 75-64 Wednesday night at BPCC.

BPCC trailed just 53-50 with about 10 minutes left in the game, but the Lady Cavs went cold and TVCC went on a 13-3 run over the next four minutes to take control.

BPCC fell to 14-8 overall and 7-5 in Region XIV. Trinity Valley, ranked No. 2 in the nation, improved to 19-1 and 11-0.

Keanna Rainwater, a 5-foot-11 freshman from Saline, led BPCC with 15 points. Former Byrd standout Diamond Willis added 11. Andreanna Johnson and Charity Robinson scored eight each.

Dajhae Mullins, a 5-11 freshman from Chicago, led TVCC with 16 points. Kami Mickens, a 5-7 sophomore from Dallas, scored 15.

The Lady Cards hit eight 3-pointers to four for BPCC.

Trinity Valley has won nine national championships. BPCC is just in the second year of its program.

BPCC returns to action Saturday against Paris JC at 2 p.m. in Paris, Texas.
