Mark Hux, an ESL instructor at Bossier Parish Community College (BPCC), has been named the national 2024 Outstanding Local Excellence in Advocacy by the Coalition on Adult Basic Education (COABE). Hux received the prestigious award during COABE’s national conference, held March 31–April 2 in Dallas, Texas.
A dedicated ESL instructor in BPCC’s College Transition Department for 15 years, Hux has consistently demonstrated his commitment to advancing adult education. In addition to his instructional role, Hux serves as president of the Louisiana Association for Public Community and Adult Education (LAPCAE). He recently completed his term as a COABE State Advocate for Adult Education Fellowship (SAAEF) and has begun a one-year term in COABE’s State Association Leadership Initiative (SALI), continuing his mission to raise awareness about the importance of adult education programs.
“There is so much work to do in Louisiana to prepare adults for today’s workplace,” said Hux. “So many working-age adults in Louisiana face barriers with literacy, numeracy, digital literacy, language proficiency, soft skills, and more. Our programs raise up our adult learners to prepare them for a brighter future. I am honored to receive this award. The experiences I had as a SAAEF fellow will open doors for our students, and that is what motivates me to strive for not only my success but their success also.”
