Bossier Parish property owners will see their 2026 tax bills go down on two approved millages for the Bossier
Parish School Board, following action taken at the June 18, 2026 BPSB meeting. A 26.57 mill tax proposition is
being lowered to 26.50 and an 11.00 mill tax is being reduced to 10.00, equating to approximately $1.56 million
in savings.
The board also gave its nod of approval to construct the BPSB Center for Excellence, a 2,772 seat
multi-purpose student event center at the John McConathy Academic Complex (JMAC), to be utilized by every
student and school in the district. Residents can expect to see construction begin on the $20 million facility at
5401 Shed Road in Bossier City during the 2026-27 school year. It will be paid for using committed
construction funds at no additional cost to taxpayers.
“I cannot think of a better way to serve our students and community than with this one-of-a-kind facility,” said
Bossier Schools Superintendent Jason Rowland. “(From the) i3 Art Expo, kindergarten and fifth grade
graduations to job fairs and military nights, it will be fantastic to have these events on Bossier Parish School
Board property. The opportunities are limitless for what we can offer.”
Plans for the Center for Excellence are two-fold. An existing gymnasium, theater and adjoining spaces will be
completely renovated, while two buildings will be removed to make way for a newly constructed 45-thousand
square foot activities center that includes banquet space. An additional 200 parking spaces are also on the
checklist, as well as improvements to a ring road encircling the property that was purchased two years ago
from the Arc of Acadiana. Altogether, the Center for Excellence will offer nearly 65-thousand square feet of
usable space for student and district activities.
Next steps for the project include planning and design, the bid process, and ultimately, construction, which is
anticipated to take between 18-24 months.
BPSB District 6 Representative Glen Bullard expressed his enthusiasm for the Center for Excellence, saying
“This will be a highly utilized facility.”
“This is visionary for Bossier,” echoed District 10 Representative Sandra “Samm” Darby. “I look forward to
having this facility under our leadership.”
