Byrd rallies past Haughton in first round of 5A baseball playoffs

The Haughton Buccaneers fell to the Byrd Yellow Jackets 10-4 in the first round of the Class 5A baseball playoffs Monday at Byrd’s field at LSUS.

Haughton, the No. 22 seed, closed its season 17-13. Byrd (20-10), the No. 11 seed, will face No. 27 Captain Shreve, which upset No. 6 Sulphur 3-1, in the best-of-three second round.

Haughton got off to a great start, scoring twice in the first two innings to take a 4-1 lead. Byrd cut it to one with two in the bottom of the fourth and broke the game open with five in the fifth.

Haughton senior Tyler Davis went 2-for-3 with two RBI. Senior Triston Carmack had two hits.

Senior Andrew Sewell had an RBI double. Senior Kirkland Seals also had a double.

Byrd had nine hits. Zavier Moore had a home run, double and three RBI.

Other seniors on the Haughton roster, according to MaxPreps, are Jeremiah Wilson, Cameron Hadley, Ryan Jeffrey, Colby Holmes and Reid Wilson.
