Keep Bossier Beautiful and Shreveport Green are joining forces for Love
Our Waterways, a Keep Louisiana Beautiful initiative focused on protecting Louisiana’s waterways
from litter and plastic pollution. The regional Caddo-Bossier cleanup will take place on Saturday,
Sept. 12, from 8 a.m. to noon, bringing volunteers from both sides of the Red River together to
make a difference in local lakes, rivers and bayous.
Built around the theme “Two Parishes. One Mission.,” the local effort will mobilize volunteers to
remove litter and debris while raising awareness about plastic pollution and its impact on waterways.
“Love Our Waterways is about recognizing that our environmental challenges don’t stop at parish
lines,” said Lauren “LJ” Jones, CEO and executive director of Shreveport Green. “Caddo and
Bossier share these natural resources, and this event gives our communities an opportunity to come
together around one mission—protecting them for the people who live, work and play here.”
Plastic pollution is a particular focus of the initiative. Plastic litter can persist in the environment for
years, eventually breaking into smaller pieces known as microplastics that are difficult to remove and
can affect aquatic ecosystems.
“Plastic litter is especially concerning because it doesn’t simply go away,” said Lynn Bryan,
executive director of Keep Bossier Beautiful. “Over time, it breaks down into smaller and smaller
pieces that can become microplastics in our water and environment. Through Love Our Waterways,
we want people to understand the problem, but more importantly, to know that each of us can be
part of the solution.”
Individuals, families, businesses, civic organizations and other community groups are encouraged to
participate. Volunteers will work at designated cleanup locations throughout the area, with additional
event details and instructions provided to registered participants.
Volunteer registration is open now at KeepBossierBeautiful.com and ShreveportGreen.org.
