Camping World Independence Bowl features six public events this week

The Camping World Independence Bowl has six bowl week public events leading up to and following the 2015 Camping World Independence Bowl on Saturdayat 4:45 p.m.

On Wednesday, December 23, Tulsa and Virginia Tech players will take part in the “Big Game Show” Team Welcome Party at 5:30 p.m. at Riverview Hall in downtown Shreveport. Players and coaches from both teams will compete in game show-style competitions, such as Jeopardy and Family Feud. Tickets are just $5 and can be purchased at the event.

Thursday, December 24, the FCA of Northwest Louisiana puts on the Citizens National Bank FCA Breakfast at 7:30 a.m. at the Bossier Civic Center. Players and coaches from each team will give their personal testimonies during a hearty breakfast gathering.

Starting at 8 a.m. on game day, December 26, Sportspectrum is putting on the first Camping World Independence Bowl 5K. Participants can register by searching for the race on sportspectrumusa.com or runsignup.com. The race will start at the Stoner Avenue Skate Park off of Clyde Fant Parkway.

Fan Fest will take place at Louisiana State Fair Grounds from noon until 4 p.m. on game day. It will feature local food trucks, inflatables for kids and adults, a sports bar, a DJ and much more.

In addition, ice skating will be available for the whole family at George’s Pond at the Hirsch Coliseum from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Admission will be $8 per person, and skate rentals will be $4 per pair.

The Parade and Pep Rally will start at 1 p.m., and will go down the midway on the Louisiana State Fair Grounds, culminating outside of Fan Fest. The Parade will feature Mardi Gras floats with bead tosses, and Camping World CEO Marcus Lemonis will throw beads. The bands and cheerleaders from each school will have a battle of the bands at the conclusion of the Parade.

Following the game, the first College Colors Pub Crawl will take place in downtown Shreveport, beginning at 9 p.m. Registration will take place at The Supper Club in downtown Shreveport, and will feature free tastings of the three local craft breweries. Participants can preregister online at CampingWorldIndependenceBowl.com.
