SHREVEPORT – On Tuesday, May 6 The Center for Families, the oldest nonprofit in Northwest Louisiana, will be celebrating 125 years serving the Shreveport-Bossier community.

As part of the national Give for Good movement locally hosted by The Community Foundation of North Louisiana, The Center will be holding a cocktail attire Birthday Soiree in their recently renovated Serenity Garden behind their office at 864 Olive Street in Shreveport.

The party will be from 6-8 p.m. and will include live music from Heather Bryson and Cristina Pisani from the Shreveport Opera, the Four Seasons String Quartet, and Jazziana. This event also features Lisa Babin, President and CEO of the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame Foundation, as the welcoming hostess. There will also be delectable edibles and birthday cake. The Center would also like to request the presence of former residents and board members of the Genevieve Orphanage at the 125th Birthday Celebration.

This event is free and open to the public. RSVP is requested no later than April 30. Attendees can RSVP by calling 318-222-0759, sending an e-mail to contact@thecenterforfamilies.com or visit the Center’s Facebook page and RSVPing to the event online.

The Center for Families hopes to raise $25,000 during Give for Good and their Birthday Soiree. This money will be used to replace The Center’s outdated computer systems and database technology.

The average age of computers the agency uses is between 12-15 years old. All computers run Windows XP, which support ended for on April 8 of this year. This means the agency is vulnerable to malware and viruses, potentially shutting down the agency.

Additionally, this money will be used to put a computer in each clinician’s office and to pay the monthly cost for a year for a new database system that will allow the agency to work more efficiently and use less paper.

The Center for Families will have Give for Good donation stations set up at their office from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Bistro To-Go in Shreveport during lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., and also at the Birthday Soiree from 6-8 p.m.
