The Bossier Chamber of Commerce is seeking to recognize the importance of the military and first responders in the local community with its annual Patriot Awards Luncheon.

The event honors Bossier Parish military personnel, law enforcement, and fire/EMS on Thursday, Sept. 11 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Bossier Civic Center. This event recognizes men and women in several categories based on criteria from a local selection committee.

Lt. Col. Brett Waring will be the Patriot Awards keynote speaker. Hear the gripping account from the commander of the Air Force Combat Search and Rescue A-10 unit that worked day and night to bring the Lone Survivor and his fellow SEALS out of harm’s way.

Former Navy SEAL Marcus Luttrell was the only survivor of a mission in Afghanistan in 2005, Operation Red Wings. Luttrell and his team of three other SEALS were tasked with killing a top Taliban commander. This story became the basis of the book, Lone Survivor, which has been turned into a major motion picture.

In every military operation, there are many players and key aspects to completing the mission. The brave men and women of the Combat Search and Rescue teams that ultimately located and extracted Marcus Luttrell are not portrayed in the recently released movie, but their stories are incredible tales of determination to find their fellow servicemen.
