Bossier City Police arrested a man over the weekend after he seriously injured an 8-year old girl when the car he was driving struck the child on a city street and he then fled the scene.
Jose Pedro Mata, 20, of Bossier City was arrested on charges of hit and run, reckless operation of a motor vehicle and no driver’s license after officers were called to the 800 block of Anthony Street Sunday afternoon in reference to a motor vehicle crash involving a pedestrian.
Bossier City Fire Department personnel transported the victim to University Health in Shreveport with non-life threatening injuries. Witnesses came to the child’s aid and told police they saw the vehicle hit the girl. The vehicle did not stop and continued on to a nearby residence on Anthony Street before the driver, later identified as Mata, got out and ran inside the house. That’s where officers located Mata and placed him into custody. Officers subsequently found that Mata did not have a driver’s license.
Mata was booked into the Bossier City Jail and later transferred to the Bossier Parish Maximum Security Facility.
