College baseball: BPCC begins conference play with doubleheader split

The Bossier Parish Community College Cavaliers began conference play Saturday with a doubleheader split against Tyler Junior College in Tyler, Texas.

After winning the first game 10-0 in six innings, the Cavs lost 3-1 in the second.

Zach St. Pierre pitched a five-hit gem with six strikeouts and only one walk in the opener.

The Cavaliers (8-2-1) pounded out 13 hits.

Mason Hammonds went 4-for-4.

Alejandro Corzalo had a home run, double and two RBI. Ayden Makarus went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI.

Justin Breen had a double. Four other Cavs had singles.

Tyler Junior College (10-4) scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth to break a 1-1 tie in the second game.

BPCC’s Gavin Baird went 3-for-3.

Starter Caden Griffin allowed four hits in five innings. He struck out four and walked one.

Trevor Wall took the loss. He allowed two hits and one earned run in three innings of relief.

BPCC hosts Kellogg Community College in a non-conference game Tuesday at 2 p.m.
