College baseball: BPCC opens Region 14 North Tournament with shutout

The Bossier Parish Community College Cavaliers opened the Region XIV North Tournament with a 7-0 victory over Alvin College Thursday at BPCC.

The No. 1 seed Cavs (35-16) will play No. San Jacinto (37-26), a 3-1 winner over Tyler JC in Thursday’s second game, Friday at 5 p.m. No. 4 Alvin (28-25) plays Tyler (33-22) in an elimination game at 1.

BPCC got off to a good start. Dylan Biddick hit a two-run homer with one out in the bottom of the first. The Cavs added two in the fourth, two in the seventh and one in the eighth.

Starter Ben McKinnon went 6 2/3 innings. He allowed four hits, struck out three and walked four.

Jake Skelly pitched 2 1/3 innings of relief. He allowed one hit, struck out one and walked one.

The Cavs had 15 hits. Tyrus Hall went 4-for-4 with a double. Jacob Gillis went 3-for-5 with an RBI.

Biddick went 2-for-4.

Andy Roman went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. DJ Pinkerton had two RBI. Gianluca Montanaro, Hayden Stringfellow and Parker Gwyn all had doubles.
