College baseball: BPCC reaches 25-win mark with sweep of Northeast Texas CC


The Bossier Parish Community College Cavaliers swept Northeast Texas Community College 9-2 and 17-6 Wednesday in Mount Pleasant, Texas.

BPCC improved to 25-11-1 overall and 15-9 in Region XIV. Northeast Texas dropped to 8-28 and 5-19.

Alejandro Carzola, Gavin Baird, Ayden Makarus, Simon Grinberg and Justin Breen all had two hits in the seven-inning first game.

Grinberg and Breen had one home run and three RBI each. Grinberg also had a double.

Baird had three RBI. Carzola had a triple, and Kameron Edwards had a double.

Starter Seth Gurr allowed three hits and no earned runs in six innings. He struck out five and walked two. 

BPCC scored seven runs in the top of the eighth and final inning of the second game.

The Cavaliers pounded out 20 hits.

Connor Crowson had a monster game, going 5-for-6 with a home run, two doubles and four RBI.

Baird, Grinberg and Makarus had three hits apiece. Grinberg had two doubles and two RBI.

Carzola had a home run and double. Makarus had a double and two RBI.

Baird and Mason Hammonds had two RBI each. Hammonds and Cole Ketzner had doubles.

Starter Caden Griffen allowed five hits and three earned runs in 4 1/3 innings. Cameron Duke allowed two hits and one earned run in 2 1/3 innings. Nathan June gave up one hit and struck out two in the final inning.

BPCC is scheduled to visit Tyler Junior College for a 1 p.m. doubleheader Saturday.
