College baseball: BPCC splits doubleheader against Navarro


The Bossier Parish Community College Cavaliers split a Region XIV doubleheader Wednesday against Navarro College in Corsicana, Texas.

The Cavaliers won the first game 8-5 and lost the second 8-6.

BPCC is 13-6-1 overall and 6-4 in the conference. Navarro is 7-13-1 and 3-7.

Cole Ketzner led the Cavaliers at the plate in the Game One victory, going 3-for-4 with a double.

Ayden Makarus and Gavin Baird both went 2-for-3. 

Gabriel Cabrera had two hits and four RBI. His bases-loaded double with two outs in the top of the third gave BPCC a 4-1 lead.

Mason Hammonds also had two hits. Justin Breen had a double.

Starter Seth Gurr went 4 1/3 innings for the win. He scattered six hits Trevor Wall didn’t allow a run in 2 2/3 innings of relief. 

In Game Two, the Cavs scored four runs in the top of the seventh to get within one but were unable to get a run in the final two innings.

Navarro made it 8-6 with a run in the bottom of the seventh.

Connor Crowson went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI. Alejandro Carzola had two hits and two RBI. Hammonds had a double.

BPCC used seven pitchers. Freshman Jacob Hernandez, a former Haughton standout, allowed two hits and one unearned run in 2/3 of an inning. He also had one strikeout.

The Cavs return to action Saturday with a 1 p.m. doubleheader against Northeast Texas Community College at BPCC.
