College baseball: BPCC sweeps Navarro


The Bossier Parish Community College Cavaliers swept Navarro College, 2-1 and 14-7, Saturday at BPCC.

BPCC improved to 22-11-1 overall and 13-9 in Region XIV. Navarro dropped to 16-18-1 and 10-12.

Zach St. Pierre pitched a seven-inning one-hitter in the first game. He struck out 10 and walked none.

The Cavaliers won on Gavin Baird’s single with one out in the bottom of the seventh.

Leadoff batter Kameron Edwards hit a hard ground ball and reached on an error. He advanced to second on Alejandro Cazorla’s ground ball to third and scored on Baird’s hit.

BPCC tied the game at 1 in the bottom of the sixth. Mason Hammonds and Ayden Makarus had back-to-back one-out singles. Makarus’ scored Connor Crowson, who reached on a fielder’s choice.

Baird had two of the Cavaliers’ seven hits, going 2-for-4. 

The teams combined for 32 hits in the nine-inning second game.

BPCC had 17. Hammonds went 3-for-5 with a double and three RBI. Baird also went 3-for-5.

Simon Grinberg went 2-for-2 with a home run. Kameron Edwards went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI.

Cole Ketzner had two hits, including a double, and two RBI. Justin Breen also had two hits. Crowson had a double.
