College baseball: BPCC takes one of three against Angelina College

The Bossier Parish Community College Cavaliers opened Region XIV play last week with one victory in a three-game series against Angelina College in Lufkin, Texas.

The Cavs won the opener 4-3 Friday and were swept 2-1 and 7-2 in a Saturday doubleheader.

BPCC scored three runs in the first inning of the win. Starter Jackie Allen went seven innings, allowing four hits. Robert Herrera had two RBI and Vaughn Shapen had one. Francisco Rodriguez had a double.

The Cavs had seven hits in the 2-1 loss, but they couldn’t get the timely ones. Hunter Wilcher went 2-for-3 with a double. Doc Wilkerson allowed five hits and struck out five in the seven-inning game.

BPCC managed just three hits, including a two-run homer by Herrera, in the 7-2 loss.

BPCC (6-10-1) resumes conference play Thursday with a 2 p.m. home game against Panola. The teams are scheduled to play a doubleheader Saturday starting at noon.
