PINEVILLE — The No. 4 LSUS Pilots continued their winning ways on Wednesday as they defeated Louisiana Christian, 13-2, to push their winning streak to 17 games.

The 17-game winning streak sets a new program record for consecutive wins, breaking the previous record set by the 2012 team that won 54 games and went to the World Series.

With the win, the Pilots move to 28-2 on the season and 15-1 in Red River Athletic Conference play. The Wildcats fall to 19-7 overall and 12-4 in conference play with the loss.

The Pilots wasted no time putting runs on the board against the Wildcats, as they scored three in the top of the first. The first two runs came around to score when Ryan Maor drove home two with a double. The third run came across when Julian Flores laid down a squeeze bunt that scored Major.

The Pilots added two more in the second when Josh Wunnenberg connected on his sixth homer of the year. The fourth inning was where the Pilots were able to open up the score in their favor. They scored five runs on seven hits to push the score to 10-0. The final three runs for the Pilots came courtesy of a two-run home run by Carlos Pineyro and a single by Zeke Maldonado.

The Pilots once again turned to Bobby Vath in game one of the three-game series, and he delivered yet again. He went the complete seven innings, gave up two runs, walked one, and finished with 10 strikeouts. Vath moved his season’s record to 8-0 with the victory.

The Pilots will be back in action on Saturday, March 26th as they will conclude the series against the Wildcats with a double-header beginning at noon.
