College baseball: Panola sweeps BPCC

The Bossier Parish Community College Cavaliers dropped both halves of a doubleheader against Panola College, 8-0 and 10-7, Saturday in Carthage, Texas.

BPCC dropped to 17-9-1 overall and 9-7 in Region XIV. Panola improved to 15-11 and 11-5.

Panola broke a scoreless tie with eight runs in the bottom of the sixth in the first game. 

The Cavaliers managed just four hits. Justin Breen’s triple was the only one that went for extra bases.

Zach St. Pierre took the loss. He allowed six hits and five earned runs in 5 2/3 innings. Four of the hits were in the sixth.

BPCC fared much better at the plate in the second inning, collecting 12 hits.

Breen, Alejandro Carzola, Gavin Baird and Mason Hammonds all had two. Breen, Hammonds and Baird had one double and two RBI apiece.

Starter Caden Griffin, who went 3 1/3 innings, took the loss.

Panola led 10-1 after five innings. BPCC rallied with three in the seventh and two in eighth. The Cavaliers scored one in the ninth on a two-out double by Baird but could get no closer.

BPCC returns to action Monday with a 1 p.m. doubleheader against Richland College in Dallas.
