College basketball: BPCC men, women on road for Saturday games as season winds down

Bossier Parish Community College faces Paris Junior College in men’s and women’s basketball games Saturday in Paris, Texas.

The Lady Cavs’ game tips off at 2 p.m. and will be followed by the men’s game.

The Cavaliers are 9-18 overall and fifth in Region XIV’s North Division at 5-11 under first-year coach Chris Lovell with just two games to play in the regular season. The Lady Cavs are 9-18 and ninth in Region XIV at 5-13 with only Wednesday’s home game against Panola College left.

The BPCC men haven’t played since defeating Kilgore College 90-88 at home on Saturday, Feb. 18. Jerry Perry and Brandon Johnson led the Cavs with 24 and 20 points, respectively. Lasani Johnson added 16, Brandon Moore 15 and Emmanuel Ejeh 10.

Johnson is the third-leading scorer in the conference at 20.9 points per game.

The women are coming off an 84-73 loss to Jacksonville College on Wednesday at home. Ashlyn Jacobs led the Lady Cavs with 16 points. Savannah Thomas had a double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds.

Samarius Colquitt scored 12 points and Regina Scott had 11. BPCC will be trying to end a three-game slide.

Jacobs, a freshman from Mansfield, leads Region XIV in scoring at 18.1 points per game. She is shooting 42.9 percent from the field, including 34 percent from 3-point range. She rank first in the conference in free-throw percentage at 86.4 (57 of 66).

Jacobs is also averaging 4.3 rebounds and 2.3 assists. She ranks fifth in the conference in steals with 58.
