College basketball: BPCC teams to open season Tuesday

The men’s and women’s basketball teams at Bossier Parish Community College open the 2016-2017 season Tuesday with a doubleheader in the gymnasium on the BPCC campus.

The first game tips off at 5:30 and will pit the BPCC Lady Cavaliers against the Lady Bears from Baton Rouge Community College. The Lady Cavaliers are looking for a 20-win season after back-to-back 19-win seasons the past two years lead by Coach John Rennie.

“We have been blessed with some level of success since starting the program three years ago and are ready to build on that success,” Rennie said. “We are looking forward to seeing everyone tonight to open our season against BRCC.”

The BPCC men will open their season against Baton Rouge Community College immediately following the women’s game. The men’s game will start at approximately 7:30. This year’s men’s Cavalier basketball team is excited with a new start for the program under firstyear head coach Chris Lovell.

“We are so excited to start our season,” Lovell said. “We believe our team has the ability to compete with every team on our schedule this season. We would like to invite all our students and the community to come out and support our BPCC men’s basketball program tomorrow night!”

The Cavs and Lady Cavs basketball teams will also be a part of the Tip Off in the Quad celebration from 10:30 am-1:30 pm Tuesday in the BPCC Quad. The Office of Student Life hosts a variety of student activities as well as the introduction of the men’s and women’s basketball teams.
