The LSU Tigers snapped a three-game losing streak with a 24-17 victory over the Vanderbilt Commodores Saturday night in Tiger Stadium.
LSU improved to 7-4 overall and 4-3 in the SEC. Vanderbilt fell to 6-5 and 3-4.
LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier completed 28-of-37 passes 332 yards and one touchdown with no interceptions.
Josh Williams caught four passes for 61 yards and rushed for 90 yards on 14 carries. He scored touchdowns on runs of 20 and 21 yards.
Nine Tigers had receptions. Kyren Lacy had six for 85 and a touchdown. Aaron Anderson had six for 65. CJ Daniels had four for 56. Mason Taylor had three for 40.
The Tigers gained 139 yards rushing. Caden Durham had 58 on 14 carries.
LSU had 27 first downs to Vanderbilt’s 13. The Tigers’ outgained the Commodores 471-308.
Vanderbilt quarterback Diego Pavia completed 13-of-24 passes for 186 yards.
Vanderbilt scored first on a 63-yard pass from Pavia to Quincy Skinner Jr. less than three minutes into the game.
LSU answered with an eight-play, 90-yard drive capped by Williams’ 20-yard run. Nussmeier completed a 30-yard pass to Lacy to the Vanderbilt 37.
On their next possession, the Tigers failed to score after driving to a first down at the Commodores 8.
After the defense forced an incomplete pass on fourth-and-2 at the Tigers 20, LSU drive 80 yards on nine plays to take the lead. Williams completed the drive with his 21-yard TD run.
The Tigers led 14-7 at the half.
Vanderbilt cut the lead to four on a 47-yard field goal by Brock Taylor on its first possession of the second half.
LSU answered with a 10-play, 77-yard touchdown drive. The Tigers converted a fourth-and-5 from the Vanderbilt 36 on a 24-yard pass from Nussmeier to Daniels. Lacy caught a 12-yard pass in the end zone on the next play. Damian Ramos’ PAT put the Tigers on top 21-10 with 3:32 left in the third quarter.
LSU kept the ball for 13 plays on its next possession. It ended with 28-yard Ramos field goal and the Tigers extended their lead to 24-10.
Vanderbilt drove 75 yards in 10 plays to get within seven with 5:47 left.
LSU then picked up four first downs and ran out the clock with the ball at the Commodores 7.
The Tigers close the regular season Saturday at home against Oklahoma (6-5) at 6 p.m (ESPN). The Sooners defeated Alabama 24-3 Saturday.
