College softball: BPCC reaches 20-win mark with sweep of Paris JC


The Bossier Parish Community College Lady Cavs reached the 20-win mark with a Region XIV doubleheader sweep of Paris Junior College on Wednesday in Paris, Texas.

BPCC (20-4, 4-0) won Game 1 12-2 and Game 2 5-3. The Lady Cavs have won eight in a row.

Micah Gray, a sophomore from Whitehouse, Texas, belted two home runs. She went 3-for-4 and had three RBI.

Kacey Maines, a sophomore from Carthage, Texas, went 3-for-4 with a home run, double and four RBI. Shelrika Bryant, a freshman from Bastrop, also had three hits.

Galen Brooks, a freshman from Bastrop, smashed a grand slam home run in the top of the sixth inning to give the Lady Cavs a 12-0 lead.

Ashley Nipper, a sophomore from White Oak, Texas, allowed six hits in 5 1/3 innings and struck out four.

Elisa Favela, a freshman from Ewa Beach, Hawaii, scattered five hits in the Game 2 victory.

Bryant went 4-for-4 with a home run and two RBI. Chelsea Fagan, a freshman from Bastrop, had a two-RBI double that put BPCC ahead 5-2 in the top of the sixth.

BPCC is scheduled to play a Region XIV doubleheader against Tyler Junior College (17-10), ranked No. 15 in the latest NJCAA Division I poll, on Saturday in Tyler, Texas.
