College softball: BPCC splits doubleheader with Northeast Texas


The Bossier Parish Community College Lady Cavs split a Region XIV doubleheader against Northeast Texas Community College on Saturday in Mt. Pleasant, Texas.

The Lady Cavs won the first game 8-2 and lost the second 13-12.

BPCC is 28-6 overall and 10-2 in Region XIV’s East Zone. Tyler Junior College (28-11, 9-1) leads the East Zone. Northeast Texas is 7-24 and 4-6.

BPCC’s Micah Gray went 4-for-4 with a home run in Game 1. Elisa Favela had three hits, including a home run and double, and two RBI.

Kaitlin Davis went 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBI. Mae Jones allowed five hits in 4 1/3 innings. Ashley Nipper allowed just one in 2 2/3.

BPCC fell behind 8-4 after two innings in Game 2. But the Lady Cavs rallied with three in the fourth and five in the fifth to take a 12-8 lead. NE Texas answered, though, with five in the bottom of the sixth.

BPCC’s Kacey Maines went 3-for-4 with two RBI. Gray went 2-for-3 with a grand slam home run.

Favela had two doubles. Raina McKean had two hits, including a double. Chelsea Fagan went 2-for-2 with a home run and two RBI. She also walked three times. Shelrika Bryant had a double.

BPCC continues Region XIV play Wednesday with a home doubleheader against Kilgore College starting at 1 p.m.
