The Bossier Parish Community College Lady Cavs stayed alive in the Region XIV tournament Tuesday with an 11-6 victory over Coastal Bend in Lufkin, Texas.
BPCC fell to San Jacinto 8-0 in the first round of the double-elimination tournament Monday. The Lady Cavs (42-19) play the loser of a game tonight between Angelina and Blinn in another elimination game Wednesday at 2:30 p.m.
BPCC rallied for the win over Coastal Bend. The Lady Cavs trailed 6-4 after five innings then scored two in the sixth to tie it. BPCC put five on the board in the top of the seventh.
BPCC’s Hailey Pence went 4-for-5 with a double and four RBI. Stacey Landry went 3-for-4 with a double and three RBI.
Former Benton star Abi Cole went 2-for-4 with a home run, double and three RBI. Rebecca Shepherd also went 2-for-4. Emily Hardy had a double.
All five of BPCC’s runs in the seventh came with two outs. Hailey Ebey led off the inning with a single. Shepherd’s one-out single put runners at first and second. Landry gave the Lady Cavs the lead with a two-out single.
Two walks brought in another run. Pence’s double with the bases loaded made it 11-6.
Cole’s home run came in the third and cut a 4-0 deficit to 4-3. Cole had two home runs, including a grand slam, and seven RBI in BPCC’s 14-10 victory over Angelina in the regular-season season finale.
Dorrie Cormier pitched a complete game.
BPCC got just one hit in the five-inning loss to San Jacinto, a single by Ruby Butler.
