College softball: BPCC sweeps Trinity Valley, improves to 27-5


The Bossier Parish Community College Lady Cavs swept Trinity Valley Community College 10-1 and 12-2 in Region XIV softball action Wednesday in Athens, Texas.

BPCC improved to 27-5 overall and 9-1 in the Region XIV East Zone. TVCC dropped to 17-13 and 2-6.

BPCC leads the East Zone. Tyler Junior College (26-11, 7-1) is second and Kilgore College (17-13, 5-1) third.

Morgan Bullock and Shelrika Bryant both had three hits in Game 1. Bullock had two doubles and three RBI. Bryant had one double.

Raina McKean went 2-for-3 with a triple and three RBI. Micah Gray had a double and two RBI.

Starter Ashley Nipper allowed six hits and no earned runs in 5 1/3 innings.

BPCC took a 4-2 lead into the seventh inning in Game 2 and then ended the suspense with eight runs.

The Lady Cavs hit five home runs in the game. Chelsea Fagan, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, had two of them. Fagan is the leading hitter in the East Zone at .541

Micah Gray hit a two-run homer while Raina McKean and Elisa Favela had solo shots.

Kacey Maines had a bases-loaded triple to make it 10-2 in the seventh. Gray followed that with her home run. The Lady Cavs also had four singles in the inning.

Favela allowed six hits and struck out five in the seven-inning game. Favela (11-0) has the third-most wins in the East Zone and ranks third in ERA at 2.40. She’s tied for third in RBI with 40.

BPCC resumes play Saturday with a non-conference doubleheader against Northeast Texas Community College in Mt. Pleasant, Texas.
