College softball: NSU’s Guile, former Parkway star, earns Southland, state honors

Northwestern State junior pitcher Samantha Guile, a former Parkway star, has been named the Southland Conference and Louisiana Sports Writers Association State Softball Pitcher of the Week.

Guile totaled 14 innings with just one run allowed on seven hits in three appearances last week.

She entered the Grambling game with the bases loaded and no outs trailing 3-2, and she got out of the jam unscathed en route to three scoreless innings.

Guile pitched a three-hit complete game in which SLU scored just one run in a 6-1 win before she picked up another relief win the series finale, pitching the final four innings without a run allowed in the 10-inning victory.

She struck out 12 batters with just four free passes on the week.

Guile (6-7) pulled into the team lead in wins and lowered her season ERA to 2.91.

NSU sophomore Cayla Jones was named the Southland Conference Hitter of the Week. She racked up 10 RBIs in NSU’s four wins.

Jones went 6-for-16 with two home runs and a double, accounting for at least one RBI in each win.
