Community leaders, advocates and residents gathered on Wednesday, March 25 at the Riverdome inside the Horseshoe Casino as the Commission for Women of Bossier City hosted its annual Women’s Week Luncheon, continuing a decades-long tradition of honoring women and giving back to the community.

Established in 1986, the Commission for Women of Bossier City serves as an advocacy group dedicated to advancing opportunities for women across the parish. Comprised of up to 25 volunteers, the organization focuses on promoting legal, political, economic and educational growth while addressing issues that impact women and families in the area.

The luncheon, which traditionally closes out Women’s Week, brought together attendees from across Bossier City and surrounding communities to celebrate leadership and service. Over the years, the event has recognized women in fields ranging from military service and education to business and philanthropy.

“This event is a reflection of what our community can do when we come together to support and uplift one another,” said Susan East, Commission for Women of Bossier City President. “Not only are we honoring the incredible women who make a difference every day, but we are also investing in organizations that are changing lives right here in Bossier.”

This year’s event also highlighted the Commission’s ongoing commitment to reinvesting in the community. Proceeds from the luncheon will benefit two local organizations, Faith and Fostering and The House of Grace, both of which provide critical support to vulnerable populations.

Faith and Fostering works to assist homeless young men and women by offering safe housing, along with educational and career support to help them build independent futures. The House of Grace focuses on supporting young women and their children, providing a stable environment, life-skills training and resources aimed at long-term success.

Beyond the luncheon, the Commission continues to invest in the next generation through its Bossier Women Leaders of Tomorrow Program. The mentoring initiative is designed for high school senior girls in Bossier Parish, giving participants opportunities to engage in job shadowing, attend cultural events and gain firsthand exposure to local government through experiences such as city council meetings and courthouse tours.

Each year, the program aims to empower young women with the knowledge and confidence needed to step into leadership roles within their communities.

Organizers say the combination of mentorship, recognition and charitable giving reflects the Commission’s broader mission — to not only celebrate women’s achievements but to create meaningful pathways for growth and opportunity.

Through its continued efforts, the Commission for Women of Bossier City remains a driving force in supporting, uplifting and advocating for women across the parish — while ensuring that future generations are equipped to lead.
