The community is preparing to honor the life of William “David” Jones, a longtime public servant and civic advocate, who passed away on April 3, 2025, following a brief illness. He was 65.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 9, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Jude Catholic Church (4700 Palmetto Rd, Benton, LA), followed by a memorial service at 11:30 a.m., officiated by Monsignor Earl Provenza.

Born in Shreveport, Louisiana, on April 22, 1959, to Carley Maxwell Jones and Letha Rose Underwood Jones, David was a standout athlete at Haughton High School, where he earned All-State and All-District honors in football. He continued his education at Louisiana Tech University in Ruston, where he joined the Kappa Alpha Order (KA) fraternity and later served as its president.

David began his professional career supporting the family business, CM Jones Oil Co., before transitioning into public service. He worked at Bossier Parish Community College as Director of Risk Management and went on to serve 16 years as a Bossier City Councilman, where he played a key role in developing what is now the Brookshire’s Grocery Arena and championed initiatives focused on the city’s growth and infrastructure.

He was also appointed to the Red River Waterway Commission, serving as a Commissioner for 11 years, helping guide projects vital to regional development and recreation.

David’s dedication extended deeply into civic life. He supported organizations like the Bossier Chamber of Commerce and was a founding member of the Krewe of Gemini in 1989. He contributed significantly to the construction of the Krewe’s floats and supported its mission throughout the years.

Outside of public service, David had a wide range of interests. He was known as an exquisite chef, enjoyed gourmet cooking, and took pride in refinishing his grandfather’s camping equipment. He also loved to read and often said, “It’s amazing what you can learn when you read.”

David is preceded in death by his father, Carley M. Jones, and is survived by his mother, Letha “Speedy” Jones; his sister, Carla Jones Crow and her husband Larry; his daughter, Jessica Jones Young, her husband Curt, and their son Jett. He is also remembered fondly by a large extended family and his dear friend, Kathryn Haley.

Honorary pallbearers will include Don E. Jones, Randy Jarrell, Roy Underwood III, Alan Underwood, Jeff Jarrell, Tommy Clark, Rick Lambert, Jimmy Huckabay, Don Williams, Louellen Smith, and David Causey.

The family has extended its gratitude to the nurses and staff at Willis Knighton North Hospital for their compassionate care and support.

David Jones is remembered as a man who led with heart, left a mark on the community he loved, and inspired others through his unwavering dedication to service and learning.
