Cross country: Parkway boys first, girls second in NSU Pre-State meet


The Parkway boys finished first and the girls second in the NSU Pre-State cross country meet Saturday in Natchitoches.

Individual champ Hayden Kingfisher was one of five Panthers in the top 10 in the boys’ division.

Parkway scored 33 points to 123 for runner-up Leesville.

Kingfisher covered the 3-mile course in 15:51.85. Other Panthers in the scoring were Jacob Hammons (fifth, 16:36.99), Cole Billiot (eighth, 16:55.01), Nathan Poovey (ninth, 16:55.23) and Prynceton Fant (10th, 16:56.07). David Morgan finished 14th and Cameron Rogers 15th.

Parkway scored 76 points in the girls’ division, just 12 points behind winner St. Joseph’s of Baton Rouge.

Sara Funderburk finished runner-up in 18:49.36, about 10 seconds behind Alissa Lander of Lakeside.

Other Lady Panthers in the scoring were Kenzie Langun (15th, 20:42.61), Celeste Cordova (17th, 20:51.23), Cassidy Cummings (20th, 21:08.41) and Ariel McGaffey (22nd, 21:18.43).
