Cross country: Parkway sweeps individual titles at NSU Pre-State meet; Panthers take team title

Parkway’s Sara Funder-burk and Jacob Hammons swept the individual titles in the Northwestern Pre-State cross country meet Saturday in Natchitoches.

Funderburk, the defending Class 5A state champ, won the girls’ title in 18 minutes, 8.20 seconds. Lakeside’s Alissa Lander was runner-up in 18:24.34.

Hammons won the boys’ title in 16:15.25. Teammate Cole Billiot finished less than a second behind him in 16:16.22.

Four other Parkway runners finished in the top 12 as the Panthers easily won the boys’ title.
Parkway scored 29 points to 100 for runner-up St. Michael of Baton Rouge.

Parkway’s Cameron Rogers was fifth (16:31.10), Andrew Robinson 10th (17:04.96), Tyler Kruithof 11th (17:06.04) and Steven Sarvis 12th (17:06.22).

The Parkway girls finished runner-up to St. Joseph’s of Baton Rouge, Parkway scored 60 points to St. Joseph’s 75.

Parkway’s Celeste Cordova was seventh (19:37.46), Cassidy Cummings 14th (20:11.89), Rylie McConnell 26th (20:31.62), Lindsey Hutcheson 28th (20:34.12) and Mackenzie Langen 30th (20:38.14).
The LHSAA state meet is Nov. 17 at NSU.
