Bossier Sheriff’s Office deputies, East 80 Fire Department (Bossier Parish Fire District #1) firefighters and Bossier Parish EMS responded to a fire this morning off of Highway 80 that destroyed wood-clearing construction equipment.

The John Deere wood shearer, valued at about $220,000, was totally damaged in the fire, likely caused by a wiring malfunction. The machinery was being used to clear timber in the woods around the 5700 block of Highway 80, about a mile west of Highway 157. No one was injured, and although some adjacent trees caught fire, firefighters were able to contain the fire to just that area.

Although the construction equipment sustained a total loss, the good side of all of this was the quick action by first responders as the firefighters kept the fire from spreading in the woods; the situation could have been worse.
