The Bossier City All-Stars came close to knocking off the only undefeated team left in the Dixie Junior Boys (13s) World Series on Tuesday before losing a heartbreaker.
Bossier City scored three runs in the top of the sixth inning to take a 10-8 lead over Hattiesburg, Miss.
But the Mississippi squad scored three in the bottom of the inning and escaped with an 11-10 victory in a semifinal game at the Sterlington Sports Complex.
Bossier City shared third place with Opelika, Ala., in the 12-team double-elimination tournament. Opelika fell to Brunswick, N.C., 2-0 in the other semifinal.
Hattiesburg and Brunswick face off in the championship round Wednesday with Brunswick having to win twice to take the title.
Bossier City went 3-2 in the event with its only losses coming against Hattiesburg.
Hattiesburg won the first game by a comfortable margin but Tuesday’s contest was tight all the way.
Bossier City led 4-3 after three innings then scored two in the top of the fourth. But Hattiesburg answered with five runs in the bottom of the inning to take an 8-6 lead.
Bossier City tacked on one run in fifth to get within one, setting up the dramatic conclusion.
Bossier City team members are Brady Gaydos, Jax Thomson, Hunter Schneider, Jackson Talbert, Ayden Hawn, Malachi Zeigler, Will Pickett, Landon Rolland, Jack Henry Smith, Daniel Sellers and Drake Bellew.
Matt Gaydos is the manager. John Schneider and Trey Smith are assistant managers.
Schneider went 3-for-4 with three RBI. Pickett had two hits and four RBI.
Smith, Gaydos, Sellers and Rolland all had hits. Sellers and Thomson had one RBI each. Hawn scored three runs
