Elm Grove Middle School Civics Teacher Chris Kourvelas is the best of the best and, in a few
months, will be honored by the reigning Louisiana Supreme Court Chief Justice.

Kourvelas was selected to receive the 2022 President’s Award of Excellence for Outstanding
Civics Teacher. This annual award is given to an outstanding Louisiana teacher who imparts
knowledge and understanding of law and civic education and demonstrates the use of
interactive learning techniques that make a difference in student learning.

The awards presentation is a joint partnership of the Louisiana Center for Law and Civic
Education and the Louisiana State Bar Association. Louisiana Supreme Court Chief Justice
John L. Weimer is scheduled to make the award presentation to Kourvelas in July at the 2022
Summer Institute in New Orleans.
