BOSSIER CITY – Eugene “Gene” Barattini, Sr., 80, of Bossier City, was called home to Heaven on September 21, 2013 after a brief illness. He was born on October 20, 1932 in New Orleans, LA. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He served in the United States Coast Guard from 1950-1953, was employed for many years at Avondale Shipyard in Metro New Orleans, and would go on to work for both large and small businesses in the Crescent City area. Gene and his late wife Gayle were deeply dedicated to their family and faith, and they assisted others in numerous Catholic church related ministries/pilgrimages, both here in the US and overseas. In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, Gene and Gayle relocated to Bossier City, Louisiana to be with family.
Gene is preceded in death by loving wife of 53 years, Gayle Quartana Barattini; his father, Lawrence Barattini of New Orleans; mother, Helen Catherine Huff Barattini of New Orleans. He is survived by his children, Gina Dillenkoffer and husband Denis of Mandeville, LA, Colonel Gene Barattini, Jr. and wife Kathryn of Bossier City, Tanya Ulmer and her late husband Steve Ulmer of Atlanta, GA, Tajma Barattini of Bossier City, and Scott Barattini of Portland, OR; his beloved grandchildren, David Ulmer IV of Atlanta, GA and Rachel Barattini of Bossier City; his brothers Richard Barattini and wife Pat of Hattiesburg, MS and Larry Barattini of Metairie, LA; his sister-in-law Carol Quartana of Bossier City; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A private funeral Mass for the family was celebrated on Saturday September 28, 2013 at St. Jude Church in Bossier City with internment at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, officiated by Father Pike Thomas, pastor of St. Jude Catholic Church.
The family wishes to express their appreciation to Dr. Kennedy Lim, Dr. Gerry San Pedro, and Dr. Ronald Lambert along with the wonderful nurses and staff at Willis-Knighton Hospital in Bossier City for their loving care.
