BOSSIER CITY – Evelyn was born on October 14, 1923 in Spencer WI, and passed away on June 2, 2013 in Shreveport, LA. She attended Spencer High School and then Fond Du Lac Business College then on to Milwaukee, where she met the love of her life, Fred. She worked there for five years, and when Fred returned from WWII, they moved to Denver for health reasons. They were married in Englewood, CO and lived in Denver where the twins were born. After seven years, Uncle Sam recalled Fred to active duty and was transferred to Houston, TX for 6 years. After that they were transferred to New Hampshire, where Karen was born. The final move was to Bossier City, LA, where they resided for fifty plus years.
She belonged to the Catholic Daughters for over 45 years; volunteered as school secretary at Christ the King for 31 years was a lay Eucharist minister, a lector and reader for many years; chairman for fun festival; member of Wives Club and Associate Club at Barksdale Air Force Base. Her achievements included; Merit Award from Catholic Daughters; Catholic Daughter of the year; received the U.S. Navy Award for Project Handclasp; Outstanding School Volunteer; 1959 President by Bishop Friend, Diocese Medal-Bishop Friend; Decoration Chairman for four KC State Conventions; Area Chairman for American Cancer Drive and March of Dimes for 10 years. She worked with the U.S. Postal Service in Bossier City and after many months of negotiation received approval to get the mail boxes moved to the homes in Shady Grove. She held the Rank of Lady Gold Cross in the Order of Holy Sepulcher (Papal Honor) and she is known all over the state for her arts and crafts (banners, vestments, etc.).
Evelyn is survived by her children: Gary Christ of Estes Park CO, Sharon Christ of Conyers, GA and Karen Smith and husband Frank of Frisco, TX; grandchildren: Katie Russell and husband Sgt. Michael Russell and Tanner Smith of Frisco, TX and great grandson, Christian Russell of Ft. Hood, TX.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, June 5, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church. The Mass will be officiated by Father Charles Glorioso. Interment will follow at Hill Crest Memorial Park. The family will be receiving friends on Tuesday, June 4, 2013 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home. The Rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m.
