BOSSIER CITY – A memorial service celebrating the life of Evelyn Speer Elkins will be held in the main chapel of Bellaire Baptist Church on Thursday, May 29, 2014 at 11:00am.
Evelyn was born October 17, 1921 in Fair Lake, LA and went home to be with her Lord and Savior on May 11, 2014. She was preceded in death by her husband Eugene Elkins, four brothers and one sister. She is survived by son Gary Elkins and wife Barbara of Sachse, TX, grandson Logan Elkins of Rowlett, TX, brother Don Speer and wife Golden of San Angelo, TX, several nieces and nephews and their families.
After retiring from Civil Service in 1980, she and Gene moved to Bossier City and became active members of Bellaire Baptist church. She leaves behind a host of church friends who were always there for her after Gene died and who held a special place in her heart. She enjoyed reading, working crossword puzzles and doing needle point.
The past five years Evelyn lived with her sister-in-law, Dorothy Elkins and her niece Connie Delaney of Bossier City. Evelyn and Dorothy were often able to go to lunch together, and became known as the “Golden Girls” at many of the local restaurants where they dined. Thank you all for making their days so delightful.
We would like to send special thanks to Connie Delaney who took such loving care of Evelyn, and to Dr. Kevin Murphy, her medical doctor for many years, and his staff. Evelyn was able to spend her final days at home with family and friends. Thank you Sara and Shirley for picking her up for church every Sunday and Mike and Barbara for your many visits and support. You are the true definition of Christian love.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation be made in her name to Komen Breast Cancer Foundation or another charity of your choice.
