A fire at a Haughton stable Thursday afternoon killed 19 horses and destroyed the building.
A barn at River Point Stables, near Louisiana Downs, caught fire and spread too quickly for any animals to be saved. The structure was an older building with no overhead sprinklers’ system.
About 40 firefighters from South Bossier District 2, Bossier District 1, Haughton and Bossier City departments responded, as well as Bossier Parish sheriff’s deputies, Bossier EMS and LifeAir. The state fire marshal’s office was also on scene.
Emergency responders reported to a call placed at 5:45 p.m. There were on scene in eight minutes.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
