Former Airline star Melvin Smith Jr. has received and accepted an invite to the 2025 Reese’s Senior Bowl in Mobile, Ala.
The game is Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at the University of South Alabama’s Hancock Whitney Stadium. It will be broadcast on the NFL Network.
Practice for the event, which annually features most of the top NFL Draft prospects, begins Tuesday.
Smith has spent the last four seasons playing for Southern Arkansas. He played in 45 games in his career. He had 167 tackles, 37 pass breakups and nine interceptions.
In his senior season (2024), the defensive back recorded 37 total tackles, a career-high five interceptions and six pass breakups. He also recorded a 99-yard kick return for a touchdown against Southwestern Oklahoma State University.
“Without God and faith in him this wouldn’t be possible,” Smith said. “I’m beyond blessed to be surrounded by a great support system as well. Blessed to be acknowledged and given the chance to showcase my talent on a platform like the Reese’s Senior Bowl.”
Muleriders Head Coach Brad Smiley also commented on the accomplishment.
“Just fired up for Mel and the opportunity for him to go compete against the best players in the 2025 draft class,” he said. “He’s a true testament to saying good things happen to whose who work hard. Can’t wait to watch him continue chasing greatness!”
