Forrest Wood Cup hits town this week

The biggest names in the world of competitive bass fishing will be in town this week for the Forrest Wood Cup.

The event is deemed the world championship of bass fishing.

The pro division winner gets $500,000 and the co-angler winner gets $50,000.

The tournament starts Thursday and runs through Sunday.

Anglers will take off from the Red River South Marina in Bossier City at 7 each morning.

Weight-ins will be at the CenturyLink Center at 5 p.m. each day.

The FLW Expo will be held at the Shreveport Convention Center from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Friday through Sunday.

The Expo includes Ranger boat simulators along with the opportunity to interact with professional anglers and enjoy interactive games, activities and giveaways provided by sponsors. Fans can learn more about the sport of fishing and other outdoor activities.

All activities are free and open to the public. On Saturday and Sunday, 500 free rods and reels will be given away each day to the first 500 children 14 years and under who are accompanied by an adult. The rod and reel giveaways are courtesy of 1130 AM The Tiger.

Also on Sunday, one fan will win a Ranger Z520C with a Mercury outboard.
