Sci-Port and Sci-Port’s STEM Communications Institute to bring science into the community
Sci-Port and the STEM Communications Institute will present Science in the City at the Louisiana Boardwalk Saturday, June 18, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event includes free activities, provided by STEM Communications Institute scientists and Sci-Port staff.
Science in the City will take place near Copeland’s Cheesecake Bistro and the parking garage at the Louisiana Boardwalk.
This event is part of Sci-Port and the STEM Communication Institute’s outreach to connect research scientists with the community, supporting science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) careers and education.
“We’ve been working with these scientists through our STEM Communications Institute. The goal of to the program is to give them both communication tools and an opportunity to share their research with a broad public. Since some people may be reluctant to visit a science center, we thought we’d try to take the science center to them,” said Sci-Port Director of Education Alan Brown.
This event is made possible by the National Science Foundation and the Institute of Museum and Library Services through the Portal to the Public Network, a project designed to bring scientists and the community together.
