Fundraiser for Haughton barn fire

In the wake of a fire that destroyed a Haughton barn and killed 19 horses last Thursday, a fundraiser will be held Friday night at Louisiana Downs.

Chaplain Jimmy at Louisiana Downs with the help of the Louisiana Thoroughbred Breeders Association, will be having a Chicken Spaghetti Dinner and silent auction at the Red River Room at Louisiana Downs on Friday, Aug. 23.

Tickets are in advance for the price of $10.

A barn at River Point Stables, near Louisiana Downs, caught fire last Thursday evening and despite responders arriving in only eight minutes, the fire spread too quickly for any animals to be saved.

The structure was an older building with no overhead sprinklers system.

About 40 firefighters from South Bossier District 2, Bossier District 1, Haughton and Bossier City departments responded, as well as Bossier Parish sheriff’s deputies, Bossier EMS and LifeAir. The state fire marshal’s office was also on scene.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Those wanting to contribute can send checks to:
