Girls basketball: Airline, Benton post district victories

The Airline Lady Vikings took sole possession of the District 1-5A girls basketball lead with a 59-25 victory over Parkway Tuesday night at Airline.

The Lady Vikings improved to 16-4 overall and 3-0 in district play. Airline took over first place because the Haughton Lady Bucs suffered their first district loss, 48-35, to Byrd at Haughton.

Elsewhere, the Benton Lady Tigers won their first District 1-4A game 50-24 over Northwood at home and Bossier fell on the road to District 1-3A favorite Mansfield.

At Airline, Madison Rowland hit four 3-pointers in the first quarter and finished with 12 points. She shared team-high scoring honors with Tyra Kidd. Kendall Lewis led Parkway with 12 points.

At Haughton, Ebone’ Green was the only Lady Buc to score in double figures with 14 points. Haughton dropped to 14-5 overall and 2-1 in district.

The Lady Bucs trailed 26-19 at the half and 35-27 going into the fourth quarter.

At Benton, Brandy Harris poured in 23 points to lead the Lady Tigers (14-7, 1-2).
