Girls basketball: Benton, Bossier open district play with victories; Haughton, Airline, Plain Dealing win

The Benton Lady Tigers opened District 1-4A play Tuesday night with a 46-34 victory over defending champion Fair Park at Benton.

Brandy Harris led the Lady Tigers (17-6) with 21 points. Emily Ward added 13. Fair Park dropped to 10-9.

The Bossier Lady Kats routed North DeSoto 66-23 in their District 1-4A opener at Bossier.

Brittany Wallace led the Lady Kats (14-4) with 14 points and nine rebounds. Necka Wynn also had a good game, scoring 18. Destiny Thomas had eight points and eight boards.

In District 1-5A, Haughton downed Parkway 37-28, Airline knocked off Captain Shreve 56-41 and Evangel downed Byrd 59-53.

Haughton’s Inez Green had a double-double, scoring 13 points and grabbing 16 rebounds. Mayghan Myers and Champagne Dennis scored eight each. Morgan Buxton was 6 of 8 from the line in the fourth quarter.

Kendall Lewis led Parkway with 10. The Lady Panthers trailed 18-9 at the half. They got as close as three in the third quarter before the Lady Bucs regained control.

Airline improved to 8-11 overall and 3-2 in district with the win over Shreve.

Southwood (16-7, 4-0), which had an open date, leads 1-5A. Evangel (14-9, 3-1) is second followed by Airline, Haughton (2-2), Captain Shreve (2-2), Byrd (1-3) and Parkway (0-5).

Plain Dealing remained undefeated in District 1-1A with a 40-29 victory over Cedar Creek in Ruston. Hershey Stumon led the Lady Lions (14-5, 5-0) with 14 points. Darmesha Noble had 10 and Draunatika Thomas chipped in with 7.
