The Benton Lady Tigers, Bossier Lady Kats and Plain Dealing Lady Lions all lost to higher seeds on the road in the second round of the LHSAA girls basketball playoffs Monday night.
In Class 4A, District 1 champion Benton, the No. 11 seed, fell to No. 6 Rayne 64-41, and runner-up Bossier, the No. 16 seed, lost to No. 1 St. Thomas More 70-50.
In Class 1A, District 1 runner-up Plain Dealing, the No. 11 seed, dropped a 58-45 decision to undefeated No. 6 seed Merryville 58-45.
The losses end the 2015-16 girls season in Bossier Parish.
At Rayne, freshman Emily Ward led the Lady Tigers with 21 points. Benton fell into a deep hole early, trailing 31-11 at the half.
Benton finished 26-9, a 15-win improvement over last season. District 3 champion Rayne improved to 29-2 with its 24th straight victory.
At Lafayette, Bossier also got down early against St. Thomas More. The Lady Kats trailed 27-11 at the half.
Bossier finished 22-7 under first-year coach DeShawn Williams, doubling its win total of a year ago. St. Thomas More improved to 23-5.
At Merryville, it was a similar story for Plain Dealing. The Lady Lions fell behind 20-4 after one quarter then outscored Merryville by three the rest of the way. The 13-point margin was Merryville’s fourth-closest game this season.
Plain Dealing finished 22-8. Merryville improved to 30-0.
